If your brand or website are engaged in social media you´re most likely already tracking what people are saying about you on the web. The tools listed below can be used for a variety of things, like tracking mentions of your social self. Or, to see who is talking about you or your brand on twitter. I tested each one of these, and they all give different results. I would suggest that you do the same to see which tool suits your needs.

The social mention search results page is great. It gives you plenty of information on your brand, including sentiment, top keywords, top hashtags, post rank, sources, and all links that point toward the mention that you are searching for. There are also alerts and a widget you can place on your site.

uberVU is relatively new and still in beta. The interface is nice, showing graphs and stats of mentions. There is also a Firefox plugin for Google reader called gReactions.

Topsy displays your twitter avatar and bio if you search for your twitter username. If you are a highly influential user it will mention so below your profile.

Google alerts searches the web to find mentions of your chosen keywords and sends you an email of the results.

Yahoo alerts offers up a list that you might choose from, it includes daily and local news, blogs and more. They keep a list of the most popular alerts. There is also an alert button that can be added to your blog or website

egoSurf tracks your keyword or brand and rates your search results using a points ranking system. It gives you all the links to the mentions for you to inspect.
